African Skies

The warmth of the skies in the following photographs drew me to the oranges and purples of my paint palette. Photos courtesy of various photographers who share their work free for download through Pixabay.

I have struggled with getting tree shapes right and found help in the form of watercolor artist and instructor Paul Clark. His easy manner of teaching make me think I have begun to make progress. I practiced the trees first in one of my practice sketchbooks before committing to the watercolor paper.

Colors used were Lemon Yellow, Winsor Orange, Winsor Purple, Ultramarine Blue and Yellow Ochre. Painted on my favorite paper, Arches 10 x 14 inch, 300 lb cold pressed.

It was a fun exercise in painting trees under an warm sky.
