Orchid

Orchids seem to be the current topic for me these days.

First, I ran into some old friends and we went house hunting. Imagine my surprise when arriving to the first house, Erik showed up with a beautiful orchid gift for me. He is an avid gardener and grows his own. That fact alone made this gift all the more special to me.

Then my husband surprised me with a birthday weekend trip to Pittsburgh and one of the places we visited was Phipps Conservatory, the home to thousands of orchid varieties. I was in heaven. I came home to my paint palette and started working right away on an orchid in watercolor. Fast forward to one week later and here it is!

Painting guidance and color suggestions provided by Louise De Masi. Watercolors used were: Winsor Lemon, Permanent Rose, Burnt Sienna and my all time favorite, French Ultramarine.

A few photos below from our trip to Phipps Conservatory.

See yinz soon!
