Saving the Monarch's and Gardening, what better combo could there be? This is exactly what my cousin, Heidi Medlin has set out to do. She started gardening in earnest last year during the pandemic and now has a Facebook group where like minded people can share their photos and ideas. She sent me this reference photo from her garden and I set out to recreate it in watercolor:
Painted on Arches 9 x 12 inch, 300 Lb cold pressed watercolor pad, using the following watercolors: Winsor Red, Alizarin Crimson, Magenta, Winsor Orange, Azo Yellow, Sap Green, Perm Yellow Green, Hooker Green, Ultramarine Blue, and Lamp Black. Multiple layers of various watercolors were required to achieve the rich reds of the flower petals.
