Butterfly Kisses

Butterflies and springtime, who doesn't like that? I had a request from someone to paint a butterfly. She said that butterflies always reminded her of her Mom and so off I went in search of a butterfly picture for inspiration. In my mind, I was thinking of a Monarch butterfly, but when I came across this photo from Pixabay, I knew this was the one I was supposed to paint.

This particular photo seemed to have a sweet angelic quality about it, so I grabbed my 4B pencil and set to work.

I used 9 x 12 Arches cold pressed 300 lb watercolor paper and the following watercolors: Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna, Paynes Grey, Burnt Umber, Sepia, and Permanent Sap Green.

Madame butterfly was a pleasure to paint and I hope the recipient likes her. The original painting is on its way to her this week but art prints are available for purchase and can be found under the 'Shop' tab.

We feed the birds, how about feeding the butterflies also? Check out this butterfly feeder on Amazon. There are others available too.
