Squirrel

Squirrel!

There’s a new superhero in town and his name is Ulysses. He is the star of the new Disney movie titled “Flora and Ulysses” and yes, it is on my watch list.

But for now I have to settle for painting a squirrel. I used a squirrel reference photo available on Unsplash.com (link provided on photo) and taken by photographer Geran de Klerk . This photo took me from a beginning pencil sketch to the finished painting.

Painted on Cold Pressed Arches Watercolor Block, 10 x 14 inches, 300 lb. I used the following watercolors to create Ulysses: Burnt Sienna, Paynes Gray, Sepia, Lamp Black, Gamboge, Permanent Rose, Vandyke Brown, French Ultramarine, and Pyrrol Orange. Perhaps a walk at the Botanic Garden is in store for today to look for superhero squirrels!

Happy trails everyone!
