Black Eyed Susan, Sunflower

Sunflowers, the colors of fall. The fall colors are all fading now. The weekend windstorms stripped the trees of the last of their fall leaves. Now it is time to wind down the year and like nature, take rest over the winter months.

When I painted this sunflower, it reminded me of my Grandmother and how she called my baby sister her little 'black eyed Susie'. She had the biggest brown eyes. I thought of them both as I painted. I thought of summers with them, filled with giggles and sunflowers.

This was painted on 300 lb 9 x 12 watercolor board. Paint colors used were: burnt umber, cadmium orange, gold ochre, green gold, sap green, deep sap green, sepia and winsor lemon. I found the painting tutorial on Louise De Masi's YouTube channel and have provided the link for you:

I love painting on 300 lb watercolor paper best as it does not need to be stretched. You can find it in your local art supply store or buy it on Amazon. I purchased mine here:

Now it is time to go rake up those leaves.

Happy Monday everyone!
